I picked up this 99 ZX6R a few months ago for super cheap because the guy could not get it to start and it was in pretty rough shape. I have been rebuilding it from the ground up and it is nearly complete but have run into a small issue that I cannot figure out.
It had beat up plastics and no seats whatsoever so I bought new plastics and a used seat off eBay. Right now when I put the rear seat on it sits high in my opinion. Right now there is no latch on the rear but the plastic seat mounts are sitting on the subframe crossmember. I have included pics of the original tail plastic that was on the bike as well as the new one I purchased. Also included picture of the seat which appears to be correct. Just looking for someone familiar with this particular bike to see something that I am missing. The first pic you have of the original tail fairing looks correct. The seat on these bikes sit a little high. Does your new tail fairing have the grab handles? I ask because the fairing sits on the subframe in the back where the rear grab handle bolt bolts down. If those are gone, then the plastic may sit lower. Are you running aftermarket fairings?

Actually figured it out but to answer you questions:
Both set's of fairings with grab handles, all the mounting points were there. They are aftermarket fairings but fit without any issues at all. It turned out there is a factory spacer in there between the rear grab handle mount and the actual fairing. I was missing this and this was making it sit lower than normal. Thanks for the input though. |
