not really. Hard to compare since they all have different exhausts...
I mean, it has a nice low growl with an Akra full system, but I wouldn't say it is noisier than I'd expect. It is louder than the 01 GSXR-750 with an Akra full system and the newer 6R with a slip-on, but not louder than say a 10R with a full system.

My 2003 636 was loud...It was not a quiet bike at all...When I put on a Micron high mount it was even louder...It was a nice sound tho...I have a clip on youtube...Look it up...Micron 636.

now the noise...Is it smooth or erratic?

If you are talking about engine noise yes they are loud. Most say it's the injectors. If you are worried take it to the stealer have them check it for peace of mind. I have not heard of any issues with the 03/04. My friend has one and beats the crap out of it and still running strong with 12K+ My 05 636 had 22K before I sold it and it was a beast. Top end on that bike was 172 indicated.

03/04 has some nice midrange and low end grunt!

the cam chain chain tensioner has been known ot be not the best unit, so a manual unit might cut some of your noise down, otherwise they are pretty bullet proof.

yes I believe most people posting above are misunderstanding your post. The engine top end noise, not exhaust note at top-end rpm, is loud for many of these bikes due to unreliable cam chain tensioners. I had an 03 which was very loud until i installed an APE manual tensioner; then it was much better. My friend has an 03 with 52,000 miles than runs strong WITH the manual tensioner.
