Like Ive mentioned on here before, im new to bikes. I need a new rear tyre and someone told me i need to get one thats the same brand/type as the front.. Is this true? or do they just need to be similar compund.

It's good to match both front and rear. I never mix it up. As far as tire choice, there is no consensus. The type of riding you do will depend on your tire choice. This has been discuss a million times so if you search, you will see a lot of other post similar to this.
