Default Air box removal

I have an 03 zx6rr, I was curious if I would gain any power from using individual air filters and remove the air box?

Most likely you would lose power. Not only does the airbox give some ram air benefits at higher speed but, it acts as a barrier to insulate the cooler air coming in from the heat of the engine.

You'd lose power and low end throttle response.........leave it on

You bet! You know this thread got me thinking a bit about additional ways to keep the incoming air cooler while entering the engine. My bike has a thick rubber pad that goes between the radiator and the engine. I am thinking of putting some kind of insulating material like this pad or even a heat reflecting material on the bottom of the airbox to further insulate it from engine heat.

I work at an auto parts store and we sell the DEI Kool tape, I am going to put it on the whole outside of my air box. I am going to wrap my exhaust as well.

Yeah my dad has some trick gold heat reflective tape left over from when he wrapped some of his electronics when he relocated them. I have a handheld temperature gun and will get the bike up to say 180 degrees then point it into the back of the airbox through the ram air tube and take temp readings, then shut the bike down put on the gold tape and repeat the experiment and see if there is any change in temp. It may be negligible to the point of having no measurable effect on performance but, unless I try it, I will not be able to know one way or another
