Default Finally tuned! - 123.9 rwhp/51.1 ft lbs

Well, after almost a year and a half of what I considered to be a soap opera with installing an RR intake cam on my 6R, I finally rode down with my bud Rspec99 to see tuner (some call him a tuning god), Mike Velasco at Brothers Powersports in Bremerton, WA.

After Mike worked his magic, I pulled 123.9 rwhp/51.1 ft lbs. Mods include: Kit ECU, RR cam, Arata full system and block offs.

I've attached plots of my dyno runs with Mike. The lowest number was almost 2 years ago with Kit ECU and Akra slip on. The middle number was before the tune.

Suffice to say, my 6 pulls like a champ and throttle response has improved dramatically. But to be honest, I was hoping for slightly better numbers as I expected that the RR cam and full system to offer more than the 4 hp that I gained, but what do I know? Rspec suspects that my plugs are fouled because she's been running so rich as the smoking at the low and mid ranges has gotten worse this season prior to the tune.

I extremely happy that Mike got rid of the smoke show and my bike is no longer running 20 miles per gallon!

Kudos to Rspec, JD Gun and Tweakmon for all their help and encouragement along the way.

- Stephen

Damn those are some great numbers! That 6r must be a killer at the track.

NICE! The 6r's realllly come to life with proper tuning. My 07 6R is one bad mofo. It pulls so hard for a 599. 120.59hp dynojet tuning done at Smithers Customs in Olathe, KS.

Having witnessed the dyno tuning, and ridden Chewy's 636 before the tune, I can tell ya first hand that the bike pulls HARDER than what a 600 class bike ought to. While the stock bike before seemed pretty good already and would pull steadily through the rev range, the "massaged" bike now seems to come on the cam and have an extra surge at higher revs, and doesn't let up until past 15k rpm.

Oh, and for those who think the RR intake cam is a simply "plug and play" on the 636? It's not. It'll require significant tuning, just to get it to run properly and net any gains.

I loved my old 636...It is the only 600 I would ever buy again.

Thanks for all the kudos and interest!

Madness: Yah, I'm really looking forward to our next track day in Sept. My six was pulling hard even with it untuned last year so it should be a real rocket down the straights now. I'm still slow everywhere else though, hah!

Default Hand Grenade

Write me and let me know how long that motor stays in one piece. My guess is the crank will go first. If it lasts, you will be my hero forever.

Default Misunderstood?

Don't get me wrong. Chewy has a wicked sounding bike. I am new to the 636 thing, and am looking for the best potential from the zx-6r. My point is, if the motor he built holds together I will patern what I do to mine in much the same fashion. This is my first posting here but its not my first rodeo. I apologize for my lack of faith. From the research I have done thus far, the zx-6R seems to have a crank issue (particularly the bearings) whenever the crank sees revolutions in the 16k range at regular intervals. Considering the camshaft upgrade would facilitate these types of revs, I can see the potential for premature failure in this configuration. I don't want to rebuild my motor every year. I just got out of my 2006 10R and got a 2006 6R. I have noticed a tendancy on my part to over rev the bike, subconsciously looking for more power. If Chewy got this upgrade right and it lasts he really will be my hero! I respectfully take a "wait and see" position.
