Default The ticking is driving me nutz...

Got my 05 6rr a little over a month ago and it is making an enoying ticking noise. The tick increases with the rpms. I tried loosening the OEM cam chain tensioner bolts to make the tensioner move to the next notch as to put more tension on the chain and it made the noise significantly quieter but still did not go away. I then ditched the OEM all together and installed the APE manual tensioner, Im pretty sure I adjusted it properly as I was f'ing with it for some time trying to get the right tension to make the nosie go away. Anyway... I have been all over every kawi forum looking for answers. Anyone have any suggestions on how to make this thing quiet. Sorry for being so wordy..

+1. Kaw's are noisy, it's the price you pay for the ability to walk all over the other bikes.

Yes I also agree, its just the character of our bikes. Dont think about it and you forget that your bike makes all kinds of funny noises.

If you have correctly adjusted your cam chain, and I emphasise correctly (i.e. not too tight either) then the next step is checking your valve and shim adjustment. These bikes often get a bit noisy though, so it's nothing much to worry about.

I know that kawi's are noisy machines, but I am just concearned that there is some sort of explanation for this noise. Is there some slop in the valves that is causing it? If that were the case, couldnt that do eventual damage? I love the hell out of my bike and as far as I know the performance is not being affected. I had called one of the local stealerships and they said just to inspect the valves it was going to be $380.00. I dont want to pay the money for them to say what everyone else is saying..."nothins' wrong"

OK... Here's how I stopped mine.... very simple.... ride it till you have it in 3rd gear... keep it in 3rd and hold down the clutch.... turn off ignition... with bike off and clutch pulled in, push bike backwards into a roll and release clutch.... do this a few times... Now turn on the bike... WTF??? No more clicking sound!!!! I'm not a mechanic but was told to do this by one who is... it resets something and it rides smooth again.... the clicking will come back once in a while and just repeat these directions!!!! Your Welcome!
