3rd gear f'd ?

03' 636. Never noticed a problem with 3rd gear. Took the bike to have a power commander installed. Afterwards the installer tells me there is a problem with the bike 'jumping' out of 3rd gear. Sure enough, on the way home I can tell that 3rd gear just isn't right. He suggested changing the shift drum? He thought there may have even been a recall for this on the 03's. Anybody ever see anything like this before?
