Default clutch not activating?? stumped

i just bought me a 2003 636. has about 5k, and the condition is decent. i just did a good tune up, with k&N filter, new sparkys, new oil+filter, and cleaned and lubed the chain.

After i got done putting everything back together, i noticed it was extremely hard to move the bike when i simply pulled the clutch in in first gear. i thought the brakes may have been grabbing, but, in neutral, it moves fine. mind you the engines off during all this.

i just sold my zx10r to get this as a track bike, and i know for damn sure this wasn't a problem on that bike. regret is starting to sink in.... now.

thanks for your help guys, i'm sure most people on this forum owned this bike before. late.

If you have not done so already, make sure that the clutch is adjusted properly per the owners manual. Unless the bike was stunted or drag raced, the clutch plates should not be worn or warped with only 5K miles on it but, they would be worth checking out if you can not adjust out the problem.

I took it for a quick spin around the block this morning, and it shifts and pulls away beautiful. its only when the engines off, and its in gear that it doesn't move. it actually rocks back and forth to a certain point where it stops, like the clutch isn't even pulled in. its also a pretty loud clunk into first from neutral when engines on, but i think thats normal. jesus, my 4th bike and i don't know whats normal yet.

ur bike will be hard to move when in gear and not running cause your engine oil lubricates your clutches. the sound u hear when shifting to first is normal til the bike gets warmed up

Default clutch

it sounds like you have a warped steel plates which causes your clutch to not disengage and allow clean shifts. keep in mind nobody puts 5k on a sport bike without beating up from time to time ,so change all fibers and steels, this should clear your problem.

check the cable first ,they get rusty very quick . I had a new yamaha once and washed it all the time ,one day i could not even move the clutch lever , and now with my brand new zx6r the cable got stuck , i guess they don't really lube it from the factory
