Sometimes when I hit the gas on my ZX6R I get some headshake (minor, nothing crazy yet) and then it goes away. I don't want this to become a problem down the road and end up on the pavement so what could I do to remedy the situation? I weigh 195 and set my sag for the weight of myself and my equipment on the bike. I have 32mm of sag up front and 29mm of sag in the back. I currently have my front rebound at 2.5 turns out from full hard. I have my rear shock rebound at 20 turns out (stock is 19). I am running 36 psi up front and 38 in the rear. I ride only on the street for right now. Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks!

I used to get headshake when I first got my 10R. It was most evedent when I would shift under hard exceleration. I also noticed it a little during hard exceleration when it reached it's peak tourque. After thinking about it and trying different things I was able to minimize it during shifting by relaxing my arms more. When I would brace for the shake it seemed to be worse as my arms caused my handlebars to act like a car without shocks. I to learned to embrace it and trust the factory Ohlins dampener to not let it get much worse. I now have the swingarm extended and have no problem with headshake since the front wheel is no longer so light. I would find a safe road and try a different posture to eleviate some of the shake knowing that it would probably not completely go away.

As mentioned holding the bars too tight will cause this, also check your headstem for any play or looseness.
Every time i'm at the strip i inevitably end up holding the bars a little too tight, as soon as the grip is relaxed the shake just disappears. It takes a little getting used to, but it works. |

ZX6R's are bad for headshake apparently. I had a beautiful pearl blazing orange ZX6R and only after one month of enjoying it I threw it into the ground busting every piece of plastic on the bike. I was without a bike for months then picked up a ZX10R figuring they're a little heavier. ZX6R's are too light for their own good, IMO.
Get a steering damper.

I did the same thing. 125 MPH tank slapper. Two cracked ribs later I'm chekcing everything. Relax the arms and a damper probably aint a bad idea (although I don't have one yet). Make sure your foks are adjusted equally and they are equal heihgt. Sounds like a little hig on the air pressue too (I run 32).

Bear in mind it only happens for me at the strip under hard accelration because the front wheel has come off the ground, and has come back to terra firma not quite right-which is what happens in 9/10 cases.
I don't get it if i am doing a high speed run and the front wheel has never left the ground. |

On Monday night, my 2005 6r and I had a 100mph tank-slapping extravaganza. I didn't go down, by some insane luck. I just forced my palms into the bars and made the fuckers stabilize. They were slapping for a good second and a half. My right foot hit the peg pretty hard and it's bruised, but other than that no damage whatsoever to me or the bike... I'm a lucky squid.
I either need a damper or need to not accelerate hard on country back roads that aren't really smooth.
