Default 07 ZX6R Haven problem

I was headed home today when I pulled in the driveway the bike had oil from the left side of the engine dripping from just below the header. I got on the phone with the dealer today and told them of the issue and they told me to bring it in. They have been having problems with the 07-08 modles because of the head gasket is too thin. I thought I would share for those who have bought this bike and let you know that the dealer is aware of these problems and they will warranty it. ccasion1

Good to know. How many miles do you have on your bike?

There are quite a few changes to the 08. Hopefully they took care of the gasket problem.

Ok guys got off the bike this morning and noticed it started to leak agian it is running along the left mid fairing. This will be my third time taking it in and they have already replaced the Head Gasket once and I did a new oil change yesterday. The bike has 2000k miles on it runs great but scared the problem won't go away. The rep at the dealer I bought the bike from said that if they don't get it fixed this go around they will replace the whole engine with a brand new one. I will keep you posted. This sucks for me but the dealer has done a wonderful job dealing with me. I can't say enough about this dealer. The dealership under the same name is also selling Yamis but everyone at that dealership gets an awful wrap. Like I said I will keep you all posted.

Ok guys looks like I will be getting the bike back on Tues. but the scare I have is whats going to happen to me when the bike has the same problem again See I mentioned above the service rep told me if they don't get it fixed on this go around then they will replace the motor or bike. I have a funny feeling that they won't be so quick to replace the motor or the motorcycle. I will be left out to dry with a faulty motor  What would you guys do if the problem won't go away I just want to be prepared for the worst. Any good ideas.

Thanks,
Kneedragger

I know this sounds too simple but have you checked the airbox for oil? a cust. of mine had the same complaint and I cleaned out his airbox. There was not alot of oil in there but it has not repeated since I did it. I told him to run the oil a little low (about a 1/2 quart) to limit the amount of "pumping" into the airbox. "Pumping" is when oil pumps out of your crankcase breather due to high pressure in the bottom end of the engine that is common at high RPM. The crankcase breather vents into the airbox for emmisions and on the zx6 it happens to come out the left side of the airbox near the bottom and streaks across the fairing. If you look at the airbox drian it may be filled with oil as well. If it is this is probably whats going on. If its not, it still might be the problem. I have many customers with this bike and have not replaced any head gaskets. I am not saying that I know everything but I will say some of the most troublesome problems are the ones we dont check becouse there too simple. Good luck and keep us posted as to the solution that works for good!
