Default 07 ZX6R oil leak

Hi Guys,

My friend bought a 2007 ZX6R and it appears to have an oil leak coming from the gasket of the valve cover on the left side of the engine. Its not leaking violently but its letting out a bit of oil and its dripping down to the left side of the frame.

The bike is only on 2900 miles and has not been down and i am wondering if anyone has had experience with this kind of problem or heard of it. I dont know why it has a leak the bike is basically brand new and bone stock. :headshake

I'm thinking of taking the air box out and maybe tightening it if its loose or just replacing the gasket? Any ideas fellas?:heyyou:

I also have an 07 6r, and although it hasn't happened to mine, I've read about this being a pretty common issue with the bike.

Take it to the dealer and have them fix it under warranty. I'm sure they have gotten bikes in there before with the same problem, so hopefully they won't try to screw you around.

If you have warranty on the bike i would suggest for you to take it to the dealer and have them fix it!! if not you can fix it yourself it's not a big deal either!

Its probably just the gasket, I did that with my 01 gixxer after takin it apart I didnt put the cover back on right and it leaked, took me a few times to get it right cuz you had to take it apart wich was time consuming and put it back together. Just take it apart and reseat the gasket and see what happens. before you take it to the dealer and pay them to do the same thing.

Thanks for the info guys, im not sure if its still under warranty, we can take it in as long as its covered but if its not then im just going to do it for him since it shouldnt be that hard as long as its only the gasket.

Yes it is the Gasket I am told I have a Buddy that is having the same problem with his 07 Zx14 just talked to him tonight about it said he hs reasearched it & that the bolts in the VC bottom out & do not compress the gasket enough & causes it to leak. Me personally I havent had a problem with any oil leaks on my 06 10R.

By bottom out do you mean you cant screw them in any further? Im thinking of trying to screw them a little bit tighter and if that doesn't work then just trying to reset the gasket.
