I am planning on buying an 05 636 and it has like 18000 miles on it but it is in great condition and was owned by a female "not that it matters". But she said that she got a valve adjustment is thing normall for a bike with higher miles?

It's normal for any recent kwaka that has done more than 24,000km or whatever miles that works out to. Up until the '04 model 10Rs, and I suspect the later model 6Rs, they had to be done at 12,000km.
Perfectly normal, and that's not high miles, it just means its used. It's far worse to hear that it *hasn't* been done. Rest easy, it means she looks after it!

Just to add to that, you can still do them at 12,000km. Most bikes would actually benefit from still having them done that soon. My '04 definately did.

US specs call for the valve adjustment to be done at 15,000 miles while the euro and asian specs don't call for the valve adjustment until 26,000 miles. No idea why they are different from the US version. I have just over 17,000 on my 05 636 and am going to wait until the 26k mark to do the adjustment. Many of the bikes that I have read about having it done at 15k have not needed any change. Some have so I guess it all depends on the individual bike.
And as was already said, 18,000 miles isn't high mileage. Hell, thats just barely broken in  |
