Default Pciii

I was reading some threads on Kawiforums.com, and I see that a bunch of people have problems with the Power Commander. Is it the heat that causes these problem? I was just asking because that is where most people mount it. Right above the exhaust in the tool box. What about when you guys wash your bike. Does the water cause any problems? I'm deployed at the moment, and just ordered a PCIII. Now I kind of regret it after looking up on it. And I also heard that if you get a dyno or custom map, it will wear your engine out in a few years. Is this true?

Well first off, I've only had 1 issue with a bad Power Commander that a dealer installed on a new bike which was quickly replaced by the dealer. The issue was with heat and when the bike was warm it wouldn't fire (it would turn over but no flame)..
I've installed Power Commanders in all of my bikes over the years (10+) and never had an issue myself. I've heard nothing but rave comments on the customer service department if someone did have an issue.
As for cutting the bikes life short, that's BS. Having the correct map will make your bike last longer. Running a bike lean will cook al sorts of things over time. The only thing that might reduce the bikes life is with all the extra power you get from a PC and pipe you'll be wanting to beat on the bike more but in the case of the ZX10, the harder you ride it, the better it runs. As for having a custom map made, install your goodies, the power commander and a good map for your bike. Have it dyno'd and see the A/F ratio and then decide if you need to have a custom map made. My 10 with the map from the website worked perfect. You can't go wrong with them, enjoy it..

^^^^ +1 I've had Power Commanders on all my Kawi's and its been a blessing. A lot better throttle response and I've never had a problem with heat/washing my bike with the power cammander installed per the instuctions (mounted on the side NOT on top). I'd buy a power commander over and over, plus the quickshift function and ignition module are da bomb!

Only ever had one issue and DynoJet sent me a new PCIII. It's a good product but like any electronic device it is touchy in extreme environments. Your alternatives are more expensive and for racing only. The PCIII is good enough for any street rider and DynoJet supports their products well.
