Trying to figure it out ...I know people will say "search" but i cant get it to work or im doing something wrong. I dont know????

Just resize in paint. CTRL+W in paint then change the percent.

What ever program you are using to preview your pictures,, use the resize tool and size the width to 500 pixels or smaller.
