Default Noob question from a not-so-newb about rep points

I have searched but to no avail for a complete explanation about rep points, how they work, what the different colors mean, etc.

I do know what they are. I also know how to give them. But, when you look at your console, sometimes they are different colors. Sometimes you get more points from some and less from others. Just looking for some working knowledge about the complete deal...and thought it would be a good thing to have documented for anyone else.

a brief summation.

green = good/positive

red = bad/negative

gray = neutral (most likely due to the giving member not having any rep of their own)

The amout of points earned when receiving Pos rep will depend on the members own rep scale, so lets say the member has 1 green square most likely you'll receive 1 point where as a more established member with say 6 green squares you may receive 15 points and of course the opposite can be said when receiving Neg rep.

Thanks, BD.

I have also noticed that when looking at the "rep bar," some are dark and some are light green. With that, I noticed that some may have 9 dark green with 1 light green, while others may have 6 dark with 2 light. So, what is the correlation there?

the diff in color is of no signifigance.

The max # of rep squares is 11 and as a member acrues rep the color and scale changes....ie you start out with a single light green square and as it builds up to 3,4,5 and then 6 (max) the 7th such square will be dark green but its placed at the beginning of the line not at the end.

the max # of dark green is 5 while the light green is 6.
