Default Help Needed! Brand New '09 Zx-6R Severe Surging!

I had heard that there is a problem with some 2009 ZX-6rs developing throttle surging and was hoping it wouldn't affect mine. Mine started doing it at around 500 miles, up to that point it was perfect. Last night with only 722 miles my 6R started severe surging while attempting to accelerate up to freeway speed. It felt just like the bike was running out of gas in gears 1 through 3 between 8 and 10,000 rpm. This is a safety issue and KHI and the NHTSB needs to know about it, I don't feel safe riding the bike anymore. Does anyone have any information that may help here, these bikes have been out for over one and a half years now, surely Kawasaki must know something by now?

I have read that a Power Commander will fix it.

However, I don't believe most cases are that severe.

Is it something you can replicate?

If so, I would take it to a dealer, explain to them how to replicate the problem and let them experience it for themselves.

You're right, apparently in my case it was bad petrol from one of those older "Mom and Pop" establishments. I have since changed fueling stations and have not had a reoccurrence.

Added an akrapovic pipe over the wekend and she's running fine now.

thanks!

Damn that looks good. I'm jealous, mine is still stock.

Glad your problems went away.

I still have the issue even after trying 91 octane (highest around) from all the major gas stations, XTRE and a slipon. No difference. There's a lot of talk about this issue on kawiforums.com. One guy even had his ECU warrantied and no diff. I'm saving for a PCV

What rpm range does it happen at and at what throttle %?

I haven't noticed anything on mine but I will see if I can replicate the issue.

ive been in a huge pissing contest with kawi over this. the stock ecu on us models is faulty. a pcv will fix the issue. kawi has said, in a nut shell, we know the stock ecu is dicked up but too bad soo sad youre on your own...

talked about this extensively at kawiforums and based on the poll that was put up, more then 50% of owners suffer from this problem.
